Is Playing Pickleball Really That Easy?
For this Koku day, we decided to try a new sport after work something called pickleball. It’s like a fun hybrid between tennis and ping pong, but with a name that made me think of food at first. The first time I heard about it was from my boss. Honestly, the name made me think of food, like a pickle… in the shape of a ball? 🥒
Fast forward to after work one day, around 5:30PM, we headed to Grand Rally Pickleball, which is conveniently located near our office. Walking in felt like stepping into a hotel lobby. Sleek, modern, and just luxurious enough to make me wonder how much this “snack-sounding sport” was going to cost.
Turns out, it’s RM130 per hour to rent the 2 lounge courts. We also rented 8 paddles at RM5 each, and since the balls aren’t for rent, we had to buy 2 balls at around RM15 each.
So yeah, for a game that sounds like a crunchy appetizer, pickleball turned out to be a pretty premium experience.😅

The Pickleball Session
Truth be told, all of us had no idea how to play this sport. We were just winging it after watching a couple of TikTok videos.
We started slow, trying to get used to the court and how the ball bounced. It felt a bit like tennis, but also like ping-pong, just with more running and unexpected sweat.
Most of our hits ended up way outside the court or smacking straight into the net. So honestly, we spent more time chasing the ball than actually playing the game.
But after a while, the tiredness didn’t come from the running anymore, it came from the endless laughing. Every miss, every awkward serve, and every accidental “smash” was followed by someone bending over in laughter. The game turned into a kind of joyful chaos, the kind that makes your face hurt from smiling too much.

Final Thoughts
Would we do this again in the near future?
Maybe. And honestly, why not?
It was a refreshing break from routine, a chance to move our bodies and laugh at our own clumsy swings. Just enjoy something new together outside of work. Sure, we were all a little confused at first (and maybe slightly competitive), but that’s part of the fun.
