Overview
This hands-on course takes participants from relational database fundamentals through to advanced MySQL query techniques and database management.
Participants start with core relational database concepts, SQL statement types, and data modeling, then build up to advanced SELECT queries, query performance basics, complex joins, aggregation, and transactions. The course concludes with advanced database objects — views, stored procedures, functions — along with database security and backup practices. By the end, participants can design, query, optimize, and manage a MySQL database confidently.

Prerequisites: No prior MySQL experience is required for the fundamentals sections. Basic computer literacy is recommended. Bring a laptop with MySQL installed (or access to a MySQL environment) beforehand.

Performing complex JOINs to combine data across multiple tables. Hands-on: write queries using complex JOIN operations.

Using aggregation functions and techniques to analyze data. Hands-on: build queries that aggregate and analyze a sample dataset.

Advanced query structures, transactions, and maintaining data integrity. Hands-on: build advanced queries and practise using transactions.

Creating and using views and stored procedures to simplify and reuse logic. Hands-on: create a view and a stored procedure for a sample use case.

Creating functions, and applying database security and backup best practices. Hands-on: create a function, apply security settings, and perform a backup.
